The numbers are 15 and 24 respectively.

Explanation :-

Given :

To find :

The numbers which are in the ratio 5 : 8

Solution :

Let the first number be 5x

and the second number be 8x

According to question,

 =  > 5x + 8x = 39

 =  > 13x = 39

 =  > x =  \dfrac{39}{13}

 =  > x = 3

Hence, the value of x is 3

Now,

The First number => 5 × 3 = 15

The Second number => 8 × 3 = 24

Verification :-

Putting the value of x

 =  > 5 \times 3 + 8 \times 3 = 39
