Two numbers are in ratio of 2:5 when 7 is subtracted from each the ratio becomes 1:6 the original numbers are?

let the numerator be X and the denominator be y

according to the question ,

X/ y =2/5 and. ( eq1)

(x-7)/( y-7)=1/6. ( eq2)

5x=2y( from eq1)

y=5/2x. (eq 3)

6(x-7)=y-7( from eq2 )

6(x-7)=(5x/2)-7. ( from eq 3)

6x-42=(5x/2)-7

-42+7=5x/2-6x

-35=(5x/2)-(12x/2)

-35=(-7x/2)

-35*2=-7x

X=( -35*2)/-7

X=5*2

X= 10
