Step-by-step explanation:

Two numbers are in the ratio 3 : 5.

Let the rational between two numbers be x, therefore two numbers will be 3x and 5x

If each number is increased by 18, the ratio becomes 3 : 4.

(3x + 18) / (5x + 18) = 3 / 4

Cross multiplication

3 (5x + 18) = 4 (3x + 18)

15x + 54 = 12x + 72

15x - 12x = 72 - 54

3x = 18

x = 18 / 3

x = 6

The rational is 6

Therefore two numbers are 3x = 3 × 6 = 18 and 5x = 5 × 6 = 30

Answer the two numbers are 18 and 30

Now checking the correctness of result by adding 18 to the derived numbers, the ratio should be 3 / 4.

18 + 18 = 36 and 30 + 18 = 48

36/48 = 3 / 4

Means answer is correct
