Answer:

The required number are in the ratio 3 : 5

Let they are 3k and 5k.

Then, according to the question.

(3k - 9):(5k - 9)::12:23

⟹ \frac{3k - 9}{5k - 9}  =  \frac{12}{23}

⟹69k - 207 = 60k - 108

⟹69k - 60k = 207 - 108

⟹9k = 99

∴ \:  \:  \:  \: k =  \frac{99}{9}  = 11

Hence, first number is 3k

⟹3 \times 11 = 33.
