Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number be X

So 3x and 5x

Then According to the question

3x - 9 / 5x - 9 = 12/23

23 ( 3x - 9 ) = 12 ( 5x - 9 )

69x - 207 = 60x - 108

69x - 60x = 207 - 108 ( Transposing equation each other )

9x = 99

X = 99/9

X = 11

Smaller number is 3

So Multiplying 3 is value of X

3 × 11 = 33

The Smaller number is 33
