Let the numbers be 3x and 5x.
According to question,
3x + 5x = 144
8x = 144
x = 18

Smaller no. = 3x = 3×18 = 54
Larger no. = 5x = 5×18 = 90

Hope this helps!!

Two numbers are in the ratio 3:5

let one be '3x '

another be '5x'

according to the question sum of the numbers is 144

= 3x + 5x = 144

= 8x = 144

= x = 144/8

= x =18

one number = 3x = 3 X 18 = 54

another number = 5x = 5 X 18 =90

hence the larges number is 90

CHECK

THEIR SUM = 144 OR NOT

= 54 + 90

= 144
