Two numbers are in the ratio 3:5. If they differ by 18, what are the number?

P.S I already have the answer and I just want to double check, so the method is not cumpulsory. Just the answer is enough.

NeerajKrishna: so what is the question?
keertanasamesh: Two numbers are in the ratio 3:5. If they differ by 18, what are the two numbers?
NeerajKrishna: ok the two numbers are 27 and 45
NeerajKrishna: 3x-5x = 18
keertanasamesh: Ok thank that was my answer too.
NeerajKrishna: therefore -2x = 18
NeerajKrishna: x= 9
NeerajKrishna: so 3x= 27 and 5x= 45
