✪ Question ✪

Two numbers are in the ratio 4:7. If thrice the larger is added to twice the smaller, the sum is 59. Find the numbers.

✪ Given ✪

The ratio of the numbers = 4:7

The thrice the larger when added to twice the smaller gives 59.

✪ To find ✪

The numbers.

✪ Solution ✪

Let the numbers are 4x and 7x.

According to condition,

3(7x) + 2(4x) = 59

→ 21x + 8x = 59

→ 29x = 59

→ x = 59/29

✪ Hence ✪

x = 59/29

So, 4x = (59/29)×4 = 236/29

And 7x = (59/29)×7 = 413/28

✪ Therefore ✪

The numbers are 236/29 and 413/28 respectively.
