let the numbers be 4x and 5x.

ATQ, when 13 subtracted from each of the numbers the ratio becomes 1 is to 2.

➡ (4x - 13)/(5x - 13) = 1/2

cross multiplying,

➡ 2(4x - 13) = 1(5x - 13)

➡ 8x - 26 = 5x - 13

➡ 8x - 5x = -13 + 26

➡ 3x = 13

➡ x = 13/3

hence, the numbers are :-

  • 4x = 4 × 13/3 = 52/3

  • 5x = 5 × 13/3 = 65/3
