let the two no.s be x and y. the ratio is given by x/y = 4/5

from this we can write , x= 4y/5

or, 5x-4y = 0 ---------------------- (1)

Given that, if 30 is subtracted from each numbers the ratio becomes 1/2 i.e,

(x-30/y-30) = 1/2

2(x-30)=(y-30)

2x - 60 = y-30

2x - y =30 ----------------------- (2)
