Let the two numbers be 5x and 3x
5x+3x=80
8x = 80
x = 80/8
x = 10

5x = 5*10 = 50
3x = 3*10 = 30

Smallest number is 30 (ie 3x)

Step-by-step explanation:

twp numbers ratio=5:3

total number of ratio=5+3=8

one \: number \: is \:  \:  \: 80 \times  \frac{5}{8}   \\  = 10 \times 5 = 50 \\  \\ and \: another \: number \: is \:  \: 80 \times  \frac{3}{8}  \\  = 10 \times 3 \\  = 30

the smallest number is 30.
