Let the rational between numbers be x. As the numbers are in 5 : 3 ratio

Hence the numbers can be written as 5x and 3x

As per the statement the difference in these numbers is 18. Thus

5x - 3x = 18 …Eq.1

Solving this equation

5x - 3x = 18

2x = 18

x = 18/2

x = 9

Therefore rational x between the number is 9; Now calculate the numbers by putting the value of rational x.

5×9

= 45

First number is 45

3x means

3×9

= 27

Second number is 27

Answer the numbers are 45 and 27

Now check the correctness of answer by putting the value of x in Eq. 1

5x - 3x = 18

5×9 – 3×9 = 18

45 – 27 = 18

18 = 18

Means answer is correct
