Two numbers are in the ratio 5:6 .if 8 is subtracted from each of the numbers, the ratio becomes 4:5. find the numbers

Let the numbers be 5x and 6x. If 8 is subtracted from both the numbers we get (5x-8)/(6x-8) which is equal to 4/5. By cross multiplying we get 25x-40=24x-32 By solving this equation we get 25x-24x=-32+40 x=8 The numbers are 40 and 48 respectively. Hope that helped you
