Let two numbers are x and y
Now, thier difference= x-y =12
therefore x = 12+y(eq.1)
thier ratio is 5:8 that means x/y=5/8
(12+y)8=5y
96+8y=5y
96=-3y
y=-32
Now put the value of y in (eq.1)
x=12-32
x=-20
So the two numbers are -20 and -32
Now, thier difference= x-y =12

Ratio of first number = 5x
Ratio of second number = 8x
According to Question
8x - 5x = 12
3x = 12
x = 12/3 = 4
x = 4
First number = 5 × 4 = 20
Second number = 8 × 4 = 32
