Answer:

Let the numbers be 5x , 8x

according to question :

5x + 8x = 126

13x = 126

x = 126/13

x = 126/13

Therefore :

5x = 5 * 126/13 = 630/13

8x = 8 * 126/13 =1008/13

here, 1008/13 > 630/13

Therefore the greatest number is 1008/13

Given,

Two numbers are in the ratio 5:8

Sum of the numbers is = 126

To find,

The greatest number.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem using the following process:

Two numbers are in the ratio 5:8

=> let us assume that the two numbers are 5x and 8x, respectively.

According to the question;

Sum of the numbers is = 126

=> 5x + 8x = 126

=> 13x = 126

=> x = 126/13

So, the greater number is 8x, that is, (8×126/13), that is, (1008/13).

Hence, the greater number is (1008/13).
