Step-by-step explanation:

Let two numbers be 5x and 8x

Difference=8x-5x=3x

Sum=8x+5x=13x

ACQ

13x=3x+200

13x-3x=200

10x=200

x=20

Solution :

Two numbers are in the ratio, 5 : 8.

• Their sum is 200 more than their difference.

We have to find the greater of the two .

The numbers are in the ratio, 5:8 . Let these numbers be 5x and 8x respectively such that x is a variable € I.

Now, their sum is the 200 more than their difference.

So

(8x - 5x) + 200 = (5x + 8x) [ It can't be the reverse as 8x is > 5x ]

> ( 3x) + 200 = 13x

> 10x = 200

> x = 20

Number 1 = 5x = 100

Number 2 = 8x = 160

The greater number here clearly is 160.

Answer - The greater among these two numbers is 160.
