Answer:

let the numbers be 5x and 9x.

A/q,

3(5x-9x)

=15x-27x

=-12x

so,-12x=1x+2x

=-12x=3x

=x=3/-12

=x=1/-4

Correct Question :–

Two numbers are in ratio 5 : 9 on subtracting 3 from each the ratio become 1 : 2 find the number.

Answer :–

  • The first number = 15.
  • The second number = 27.

Given :–

  • Ratio of two numbers = 5 : 9.
  • After subtracting 3 from each side then the ratio becomes = 1 : 2.

To Find :–

  • The both numbers.

Solution :–

Let,

The first number be 5x.

The second number be 9x.

According to the condition,

After subtracting 3 from each side it becomes 1 : 2.

• 5x – 3 : 9x – 3 = 1 : 2

It means,

 \longrightarrow \dfrac{5x - 3}{9x - 3}  =   \dfrac{1}{2}

Transpose the denominator (2) to L.H.S. and The denominator (9x – 3) to R.H.S.,

 \longrightarrow 2(5x - 3) = 1(9x - 3)

Now, open both the brackets.

 \longrightarrow 10x - 6 = 9x - 3

  \longrightarrow 10x - 9x = - 3 + 6

 \longrightarrow 1x = 3

  \longrightarrow x = 3

So,

The first number = 5x = 5 × 3 = 15.

The second number = 9x = 9 × 3 = 27.

Hence,

The first number is 15 and the second number is 27.
