Let the numbers be 6x and 5x.If one number is 240 ,then another number will be (240-x)

BTP,

6x:5x=240:(240-x)

 \frac{6x}{5x} = \frac{240}{(240 - x)} \\ 6x(240 - x) = 5x \times 240 \\ 1440x - 6 {x}^{2} = 1200x \\ 1440x - 1200x = 6 {x}^{2} \\ 240x = 6 {x}^{2} \\ 240 = 6x \\ 6x = 240 \\ x = 240 \div 6 \\ x = 40

Hence,the other number is 40.
