let the no are 7x and 3x

now, 7x - 3x = 12

4x = 12

x = 12÷4

x = 3

here, if x and y are in the ratio of 7:3 , and they have difference of 12 between them,

x-y=12

and that would make x/y = 7/3 ;

i.e. x = 7y/3 ,

taking that value of x , and putting it into first equation will give us,

7y/3 - y = 12

7y-3y=36

4y=36

y=36/4

y=9

x-y=12

x-9=12

x=12+9

x=21
