Two numbers are in the ratio 7 : 5 If their difference is 96 then the numbers are 336 and 240

Solution:

Given that two numbers are in ratio 7 : 5

Difference of two numbers is 96

To find: the number

Let the two numbers be 7x and 5x

From given question,

Difference of two numbers = 96

Difference of 7x and 5x = 96

Here difference means subtraction. So we get,

7x - 5x = 96\\\\2x = 96\\\\x = \frac{96}{2} = 48

Thus we have got x = 48

So the two numbers are:

First number = 7x = 7(48) = 336

Second number = 5x = 5(48) = 240
