two numbers are in the ratio 7:5.if they differ by 18,what are the numbers

let the two no. be 7x and 5x
7x-5x=18
2x=18
x=9
therefore the no. are
63 and 45

let x and y are these two numbers ,

according to question ,

x : y = 7: 5

x / y = 7/ 5 ------eq.(1)

x - y = 18

x = 18 + y -------- eq.(2)

put value of " x" in (1) , we get

18 + y / y = 7 / 5

5 ( 18 + y) = 7y

90 + 5y = 7y

2y = 90

y = 45

now put value of " y " in eq.(2)

x = 18 + 45 = 63

hence , the two numbers are 63 and 45 .
