Two numbers are in the ratio 2:7. If the sum of the numbers is 81, what are the numbers?

Numbers are in the ratio of 2:7 we can assume these two numbers as 2x and 7x ,

If two numbers are in ratio and you multiple them with same number the ratio will not change so I choose x as the common number….by using the conditions given we can find out x and subsequently values of the two desired numbers

Sum of the numbers is given as 81

So. 2x + 7x = 81

9x = 81

x = 9

Therefore numbers will be 2x = 2×9 =18

And 7x = 7 ×9= 63

Ans. 18 & 63
