Let the numbers be 4x and 5x


According to the question,

If 24 subtacted each of them, the numbers becomes

$\dfrac{4x \: - \: 24}{5x \: - \: 24}$ = $\dfrac{2}{3}$


3(4x - 24) = 2(5x - 24)

12x - 72 = 10x - 48

12x - 10x = 72 - 48

2x = 24

x = $\dfrac{24}{2}$

x = 12


$\therefore{}$ First number = 4x = 4 × 12 = 48

$\therefore{}$ Second number = 5x = 5 × 12 = 60
