Let the numbers be 5x and 8x.

If 12 added to each,

  • First number = 5x + 12
  • Second number = 8x + 12

According to question,

\bf \implies\frac{5x + 12}{8x + 12}  =   \frac{3}{4}

 \bf \implies 4(5x + 12) = 3(8x + 12)

 \bf \implies20x + 48 = 24x + 36

 \bf \implies20x  - 24x = 36 - 48

 \bf \implies - 4x =  - 12

 \bf \implies4x = 12

 \bf \implies \: x = 12 \div 4

 \bf \implies \: x = 3

First number = 5x = 5 × 3 = 15

Second number = 8x = 8 × 3 = 24

Therefore, sum of numbers

➨15 + 24

➨39
