To find :

The percentage the second number is less than the first number

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Assume the three numbers

Let third number = 100x

Since two numbers are less than a third number by 52% and 59% respectively

Thus we get,

First number = 100x - 52x = 48x

Second number = 100x - 59x = 41x

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the percentage

The difference between first number and second number

= 48x - 41x

= 7x

Hence the required percentage

\displaystyle \sf   =  \frac{7x}{48x} \times 100\%

\displaystyle \sf   =  \frac{7}{48} \times 100\%

\displaystyle \sf   = 14.5833333\%

\displaystyle \sf    \approx 14.58\%
