let the 2 no.s be 3x and 4x

so therefore

(4x)² = 8{(3x)²} - 224

⇒ 16x² = 72x² - 224

⇒ 56x² = 224

⇒ x² = 224÷56

⇒ x² = 4

⇒ x= ± 2

∴ now the nos. are

3x = 3 × ±2

    = ±6

4x = 4 × ±2

    = ±8
