Let the two numbers be x and x + 45, then
x + x + 45 / 2 = 40
2 x + 45 = 80
2 x = 35
x = 35 / 2 = 17.5
First no. = 17.5
Second no. = 17.5 + 45 = 62.5

Let one no. be x
Then the other no. will be x + 45
Average = no. 1 + no. 2/2
40 = x + x + 45 divided by 2
2x = 80-45 = 35
x = 17.5
Other no. = 17.5 + 45 = 62.5
Then the other no. will be x + 45
Average = no. 1 + no. 2/2
40 = x + x + 45 divided by 2
2x = 80-45 = 35
x = 17.5
Other no. = 17.5 + 45 = 62.5
