⇒5x+5y=85

x+y=17

⇒x=17−y ( Putting in eq. (1))

⇒2x+3y=49

2(17−y)+3y=49

3y−2y+3y=49

3y+y=49

⇒y=15

⇒2x+3(15)=49

2x+45=49

2x=4

⇒x=2

So y is larger.

Hence, the answer is 15.

Answer:

The required numbers are 5 & 2.

Step-by-step-explanation:

Let the greater number be x.

And the smaller number be y.

From the first condition,

x - y = 3

⇒ x = 3 + y

x = y + 3 - - - ( 1 )

From the second condition,

3x + 2y = 19

⇒ 3 * ( y + 3 ) + 2y = 19 - - - [ From ( 1 ) ]

⇒ 3y + 9 + 2y = 19

⇒ 5y + 9 = 19

⇒ 5y = 19 - 9

⇒ 5y = 10

⇒ y = 10 ÷ 5

y = 2

By substituting y = 2 in equation ( 1 ), we get,

x = y + 3 - - - ( 1 )

⇒ x = 2 + 3

x = 5

∴ The required numbers are 5 & 2.
