x^2 + 5x = 336

x^2 + 5x - 336 = 0

Now by quadratic formula

D = b^2 - 4ac

= 5^2 - 4x1x -336

=25 + 1344

= 1369

Now  -b +- √D /2

=  -5 +- 37 / 2                               OR                    = -42/2

= 32 / 2                                                                  = -24
