Let one number be x and other is y.

According to the question:-

Their difference = 5

Their sum = 19

x - y = 5

x + y = 19

_____________

2x = 24

From the elimination method.

y will be cancelled, then, add x and x which gives 2x and

5 + 19 gives 24,

Now we have,

2x = 24

x = \frac{24}{2}

x = 12 is the answer.

Now put x = 12 in x - y = 5

12 - y = 5

- y = 5 - 12

- y = -7

y = 7
