Step-by-step explanation:

let x be the bigger number and y be the smaller number.

1st condition,

x - y = 5_____( 1 )

2nd condition,

3x + 2y = 20_____( 2 )

Multiply equation no. ( 1 ) by 2

2x - 2y = 10_______( 3 )

Adding equation no. (2) and (3)

3x + 2y = 20

+ 2x - 2y = 10

-----------------------

5x = 30

x = 30

------

5

x = 6

Answer : The value of x is 6.

Substituting the value of x in equation no. ( 1 )

x - y = 5

6 - y = 5

- y = 5 - 6

- y = -1

y = 1

Answer : The value of y is 1.
