Two objects each of mass 5 kg are moving in the same straight line but in opposite directions. The velocity of each object is 8 m/s before the collision during which they stick together. (a) what will be the velocity of the combined object after collision? (b) what is the total initial momentum of the system?

since the two masses moves on same velocity and have same mass , the body comes to rest after collision.

the initial momentum is zero

5(8) - 5(8) = 0

The law of momentum conservation can be stated as follows. For a collision occurring between object 1 and object 2 in an isolated system, the total momentum of the two objects before the collision is equal to the total momentum of the two objects after the collision.
