Two objects of masses 100gm and 200gm are moving along the same line and

direction with velocities of 2ms-1 and 1ms-1

respectively.They colloide and after

the collosion , the first object moves at a velocity of 1.67ms-1

. Determine the

Given :-

Mass of one object = 100 g

Mass of the other object = 200 g

Velocity of m₁ before collision = 2 m/s⁻¹

Velocity of m₂ before collision = 1 m/s⁻²

Velocity of m₁ after collision = 1.67 m/s⁻¹

To Find :-

The  velocity of the second object.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • v = Velocity
  • m = Mass

According to the question,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Momentum \ before \ collision = Momentum\  after \ collision  }}

Substituting their values,

m₁v₁ + m₂v₂ = m₁v₃ + m₂v₄

2(0.1) + 1(0.2) = 1.67(0.1) + v₄(0.2)

0.2 + (0.2) = 0.167 + 0.2v₄

0.4 = 0.167 + 0.2v₄

v₄  = 1.165 m/s

Therefore, the velocity of the second object is 1.165 m/s.
