Two objects of masses 300 grams and 500 grams are moving along the same straight line but in opposite directions with velocities 10 m/s and 20 m/s respectively. They collide with each other and get sticked with each other. Calculate the velocity of the objects after the collision.

Explanation:

before collision

mass of 1 object is 300g (1kg=1000g) 0.300 kg

velocity = 10m/s

mass of second object is 500g (1kg=1000g) 0.500 kg

velocity =20m/s

after collision

mass = 0.500kg +0.300kg=0.800

velocity = v

according to conservation of momentum

before collision object mass×velocity=after collision mass×velocity

0.300×10+0.500×20 = 0.800+v

300+1000=0.800+v
