Two octagonal dice with numbers 1-8 are
thrown together.
(1) Find the probability that 5 and 6 are shown
by the dice.
(it) Find the probability that sum of two
numbers is 10.
(iii) Find the probability that both the numbers
are even.
(id) Find the probability that an odd and an
even number are present in the throw.
(0) Find the probability that 6 is not shown by
either of the dice.

Answer:

Here is your answer :-

Sample space is : -

{ (1,1), (1,2),....... (1,8)

(2,1), (2,2),......…(2,8)

...............................

(8,1), (8,2), ....,...(8,8)}

n(S) = 8² = 64.....

(i) P (both 5 & 6 are shown by dice) = the outcomes are (5,6) and (6,5) = 2/64 = 1/32

(ii) The outcomes of the event that sum of two no.s is 10 are : (2,8), (3,7), (4,6), (5,5), (6,4), (7,3), (8,2) ..

so, probability is 7/64

(iii) The outcomes of the event that both the no.s are even are : (2,2), (2,4), (2,6), (2,8), (4,2), (4,4), (4,6), (4,8), (6,2), (6,4), (6,6), (6,8), (8,2), (8,4), (8,6), (8,8).....

so, P = 16/64 = 1/4

(iv) The outcomes of the event that one odd and even comes are : (1,2), (1,4), (1,6), (1,8), (2,1), (2,3), (2,5), (2,7), (3,2), (3,4), (3,6), (3,8), (4,1), (4,3), (4,5), (4,7), (5,2), (5,4), (5,6), (5,8), (6,1), (6,3), (6,5), (6,7), (7,2), (7,4), (7,6), (7,8), (8,1), (8,3), (8,5), (8,7)....

so, P = 32/64 = 1/2

(v) The outcomes that 6 is not shown by any of the dice are 15 in number ... so, the outcomes which have no 6 in any dice is 64 - 15 = 49.

so, P = 49/64

So, this is your complete answer, i hope u will understand..
