SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Two oil tankers contain 825 litres and 675 litres of kerosene oil respectively.

(i) The maximum capacity of a container which can measure the kerosene oil of both the tankers when used an exact number of times is :

(a) 50 litre

(b) 75 litre

(c) 150 litre

(d) 225 litre

(ii) How many times we have to use container for both tanker to fill

(a) 11 and 9 times

(b) 22 and 18 times

(c) 10 and 8 times

(d) 8 and 6 times

EVALUATION

Here it is given that two oil tankers contain 825 litres and 675 litres of kerosene oil respectively.

(i) We now find the HCF of 825 and 675

825 = 3 × 5 × 5 × 11

675 = 3 × 3 × 3 × 5 × 5

So HCF = 3 × 5 × 5 = 75

Hence the maximum capacity of a container which can measure the kerosene oil of both the tankers when used an exact number of times is 75 litre

Hence the correct option is (b) 75 litre

(ii) 825 ÷ 75 = 11

675 ÷ 75 = 9

Hence the required number times we have to use container for both tanker to fill is 11 times and 9 times respectively

Hence the correct option is (a) 11 and 9 times
