The formula of the second oxide is M2O.

% oxygen in the first oxide = 50 %

moles oxygen = 50 g / 16 g/mol=3.125

moles metal = 3.125

molar mass M = 50 g /3.125 =16

moles M = 40 g /16=2.5

moles O = 60/16 =3.75

the ratio betwwen O and M is 3.75/ 2.5 = 1.5

M O1.5

to get whole numbers multiply by 2

M2O3

Hope this helps U!
