Two particles A and B of mass 10g and 20g respectively fall vertically. At a given time, the speed of particle A is 12m/s and that of B is 15m/s .Find the magnitude of the total linear momentum of the system of the two particles ?

Answer:

p = mv

p1 = m1 × v1 p1 = 10 × 12 = 120 g.m/s

p2 = m1 × v1 p1 = 20 ×15 = 300 g.m/s

total linear momentum = (120 + 300 ) g.m/s = 420 g.m/s

Mass of A = 10 g =  = 0.01 kg

Velocity of A = 12 m/s

Mass of B = 20 g =  = 0.02 kg

Velocity of B = 15 m/s

We know that :

Momentum of A = 0.01 × 12 = 0.12 kgm/s

Momentum of B = 0.02 × 15 = 0.3 kgm/s

Total Momentum = 0.12 kgm/s + 0.3 kgm/s

=》 0.42 kgm/s
