Two particles are in SHM on same straight line with amplitude A and 2A and with same angular frequency w. It is observed that when first particle is at a distance A/√2 from origin and going toward mean position, other particle is at extreme position on other side of mean position. Find phase difference between the two particles 1. 45° 2. 90° 3. 135° 4. 180°

The phase difference between the two particles is θ = 135°

Explanation:

A/√2  = A sin θ

Sin θ = 1/√2

=> θ = π/4

Now

θ = π/2 + π/4

θ = 2π + π / 4

θ = 3π / 4 = 135°

Hence the phase difference between the two particles is θ = 135°
