Two particles P and Q move towards each other along a straight line MN 51 meters along P starts from M with a velocity 5m/s and a constant acceleration of 1m/s^2 Q starts from N at the same time with velocity 6m/s and a constant acceleration of 3m/s^2. Find the time the particles are 30 meters apart

Answer:

assuming total time is 2t

for P, at half time

v=X.t,S1=21Xt2

at full time S2=Xt.t+212Xt2=2Xt2

total distance covered by P is S1+S2=2.5Xt2

for particle Q, at half time

v=2Xt,S1=212Xt2=Xt2

at full time S2=2Xt.t+21Xt2=2.5Xt2

total distance covered by Q is S1+S2=3.5Xt2

so distance covered by Q is more then P.
