Two parts of a number are such that one is half the other. The sum of the two parts is 8 more than their difference. What are the parts and what is the number ?

One is half the other => x=y/2
the sum of the two parts = 8 more than their difference
ie x+y = 8 + (x - y)
on solving the equation
x+y -x +y = 8
2y = 8 => y = 4
so, x = 4/2 = 2
so , 2 numbers are 2 & 4
Check the solution
I condition => x = y/2
2 = 4/2
II condition
x+y = 8 + (x-y)
2+4 = 8 +(4-2)
6 = 8 + 2
ie 6(sum of the 2 no.) = 8 + (more than the difference)
the sum of the two parts = 8 more than their difference
ie x+y = 8 + (x - y)
on solving the equation
x+y -x +y = 8
2y = 8 => y = 4
so, x = 4/2 = 2
so , 2 numbers are 2 & 4
Check the solution
I condition => x = y/2

II condition
x+y = 8 + (x-y)
2+4 = 8 +(4-2)
6 = 8 + 2
