So AB = CD = 10 m

And AC = BD = 7 m

∴ DE = BE - BD = 9 - 7 = 2 m

Consider ΔCDE.

It's a right triangle.

∴ CE² = CD² + DE²

⇒ CE² = 10² + 2²

⇒ CE² = 100 + 4

⇒ CE² = 104

⇒ CE = √104

⇒ CE = 10.198                    OR                ⇒ CE = - 10.198 (not possible)

⇒ CE = 10 m

So the distance is approximately 10 m.
