In Persio-Arabic music, each mode is called a Mayed and is similar to a raga in Indian traditional music.
Amir Khusrao an exceptional scholar and musician who was the statesman under the rule of Alauddin Khilji during the 13th century is credited with bringing about a synthesis between the two cultures.
He introduced 'many Persian ragas' into the Indian raga system by blending them.
