Two persons are to run a race, but one can run 8 meters per second, whereas the other can run 7 meters per second. If the slower runner has a 10-meter head start, how long will it be before the faster runner catches the slower runner, if they begin at the same time?

Let the runners be 'A' and 'B'
A----10m-------B
Let them meet after B runs X m
A------10m-----B----X m----meeting point
A
Speed=8m/s
Dist. travelled=10 + X
Time= Dist/speed= (10+ x)/8
B
Speed=7m/s
Dist. = X
Time= Dist/speed= x/7
But time is same for both
So (10+x)/8=x/7
70 + 7x=8x
x=70m
Time= Dist/speed= x/7= 70/7= 10s
