Let distance between X and Y = d m

So distance of wall X and Y = 100 m  

Now distance of reflection point on wall from X and Y = x and y m

Reflection at 90 degree so a and b are perpendicular

So x^2 + y^2 = d^2

Also area of triangle

   = 1/2 x y = 1/2 x d x 100

So xy = 100 d

Difference between reflected and direct sound = 0.2 sec

Distance covered in 0.2 sec = 330 x 0.2 = 66 m

So x + y = d + 66

Squaring both sides we get

x ^2 + y^2 + 2 xy = d^2 + 66^2 + 132 d

using x^2 + y^2 = d^2 and xy = 100 d

d^2 + 200 d = d^2 + 66^2 + 132 d

68 d = 66^2

So d = 4356 / 68

So d = 64.05 m

Now the distance between X and Y is 64.05 m
