Given :- Two pipes A and B can separately fill a tank in 12 minutes and 15 minutes respectively. both the pipes are opened together but 4 minutes after the start the pipe A is turned off. how much time will it take to fill the tank ?

Answer :-

→ LCM of 12 and 15 = 60 units = Let total capacity of tank .

so,

→ Efficiency of A = Total capacity / Time taken = 60/12 = 5 units/ min.

→ Efficiency of B = Total capacity / Time taken = 60/15 = 4 units/ min.

then,

→ Both pipes filled in first 4 minutes = 4(5 + 4) = 4 * 9 = 36 units .

now,

→ Left to be filled = 60 - 36 = 24 units .

therefore ,

→ Time taken by B alone now to fill the remaining = 24/4 = 6 minutes .

Hence, total time to fill the tank is 10 minutes .
