Two pipes can fill a tank in 8 hours and 10 hours .If two pipes are operate simultaneously, in how much time will the tank be filled ?

Lets assume the total work they do is 40 units (which is also LCM for 1 and 10)

Then rate of work =

Pipe A= 40/8 = 5

Pipe B= 40/10= 4

Their capacity to fill tank together = 5+4 = 9

Time taken to fill the tank=

40/9 = 4.44 or 4 hours and 26 minutes
