Let one pipe takes X minutes to fill the pipe

Another be X + 5 minutes

Then

1/X + 1/X+5 = 1/6. Speed = distance/time

X+5 +X/X square +5X = 1/6

(2X+5)6 = X square +5X

12X +30 = Xsquare +5X

0= Xsquare +5X-12X+30

0=Xsquare -7X +30

0=X square +3X-15X +30

0= X(X+3)-10(X+3)

0=(X-10)(X+3)

X= 10,-3

Time can be negative

Hence one pipe flows in 10 minutes

Another in 10+5 = 15minutes

Hope this helps you to understand the concept
