Two plots of land have the same perimeter. One is a rectangle of length is 40 cm and breadth is 22 cm and the other is a square. Find the measure of each side of the square plot. Which plot has the greater area and by how much?

Solution

Perimeter of square =4×side

=4× 40

=160cm

Perimeter of Rectangle = Perimeter of square

⇒2×(length+breadth)=160

⇒2×(22+breadth)=160

⇒breadth=44cm

Area of square =side×side

=40×40

=1600cm2

Area of rectangle =l×b

=40×22

=880cm2

Area of Square is greater than Area of Rectangle
