Two plots of land have the same perimeter. One is a square of side 50 m. While the other is a rectangle of
breadth 30 m. Which plot is larger and by how much? ​

Side of square plot = 50m

perimeter of square plot = 4×50 = 200m

bredth of rectangular plot = 30m

let length be l.

As we know that the perimeter of rectangular plot and square plot is same.

So,

perimeter of rectangular plot = 200m

According to the question

perimeter = 2×(l+b)

200 = 2×(l+30)

200 = 2l+60

200-60 = 2l

140 = 2l

140/2 = l

70 = l

So length of rectangular plot is 70m.

Area of rectangular plot = b

= 70×30 = 2100m²

Area of square plot = side²

= 50² = 50×50

= 2500m²

Area of square plot is greater than area of rectangular plot = 2500-2100 = 400m²
